A letter this week from Chris Leverson, Executive Director of the Lake City Business Alliance, with news, events, and a few things worth knowing about if you're headed anywhere near Lake City Way in the next month.

Org Updates

  • The SAIL Fund is moving. LCBA thanks everyone who took the survey helping identify priorities for the Stabilize, Activate, and Invest Locally (SAIL) Fund committed to Lake City. Expect more news by mid-August on how the funds begin rolling out, guided by the City's Office of Economic Development and Department of Neighborhoods.

  • Reuse Commons opened at 12558 Lake City Way NE (the former Aurora Rents), with LCBA helping connect the people who made it happen.

  • Two food organizations merged. Hunger Intervention Program and North Helpline Foodbank have combined to form the North Seattle Food Connection, under the leadership of Srijan and Darcy.

  • Affordable commercial space in the works. LCBA is working with the City's Office of Economic Development on a shared-space model for small businesses in the Lake City Business District — kept at a manageable monthly rate, vetted for a proven business model and financial stability (not available for food production). City Notices [VERIFY]

  • Construction on 30th Ave NE. Starting Monday, July 13, the work zone shifts north on 30th Ave NE — access at NE 125th St closes, with all vehicles entering and exiting from Lake City Way NE. One lane in each direction stays open for local access while crews prep for new concrete panels, signal work, and paving; pedestrian access remains open on the west side of 30th Ave NE. This Week's Events

  • Lake City Summer Festival and Parade — Saturday, August 1, 10:30am, at NE 125th St west of Lake City Way NE. Free. A Family Fun Zone, two music stages, a car show, food booths, community organizations, art and craft vendors, and a C89.5 Dance Party at 5:30pm — Lake City's most-visited day of the year. Evening parades follow on Lake City Way from 135th St and on NE 125th St: the Children's Parade meets at the Wells Fargo parking lot (130th) at 5:30pm, no registration needed; the Dog Parade meets at Hellbent Brewery (13035 Lake City Way NE) at 6pm.

  • Refugee Arts Initiative Store Opening — also Saturday, August 1, during Summer Festival, at 12337 Lake City Way NE.

  • Lake City Farmers Market — Thursdays, 3–7pm, through September 24. New vendors, tastings, trivia, cooking demos, and food access benefits (SNAP/EBT, WIC, Fresh Bucks, and more). A new Saturday market runs October 3 – December 19 at NE 125th and 28th Ave NE, in front of the Lake City Library.

  • Lake City Art Walk — Thursday, August 20, 5–8pm. Local artists, businesses, and vendors, every third Thursday of the month.

  • Lake City Clean Up — Sunday, August 16, 1–3pm, meeting in front of the Lake City Library. Tools and materials provided.
